The paper shows that some elements of Plato's teaching can be considered mythological. When correlating them with the basic features of mythological thinking it becomes clear that Plato’s theory contains a rethinking of some of the ancient myths. In addition, the paper offers an explanation as to why the entities in Plato’s hierarchy need mediators between the worlds (god-demiurge, the divine name).
