The paper provides the results of a comparative analysis of two generations of Russian scientists: «fathers» and «sons». The object of study was the views about professional science, scientific activities and scientific career held by the graduating students of the Novosibirsk State University, graduate students of academic institutions, and young researchers of the Novosibirsk Science Center of SB RAS. It is shown that a number of fundamental human values have undergone substantial transformation over the last two decades. The author concludes that the young researcher of an academic institution of the mid-2000s is a clearly marked intermediate type of a community member, a product of the post-Soviet era.
