The author analyzes transformations of gender relationships in contemporary Japanese society with the help of the discourse approach. The following hypothesis is put forward: borrowed gender ideas and values which have been adopted in the socio-cultural space of Japan tend to acquire a principally new content and become the product of a synthesis of «Japan’s own ideas» on the one hand, and «foreign ones» on the other.
