The formation of Christian theology began within the framework of the academic standards of the Hellenistic world, which already inherited two opposing theological traditions from antiquity. One of the traditions was born in the Ionian school of natural philosophy, and was continued by the Stoics. Another tradition was initiated by the Eleatic philosophers, and was later developed by the Platonists. The two traditions were inherited by Christian thinkers, which consequently resulted in many theological disputations of the first centuries of church history.
